2nd Rainring entry for willow-tree tarot carnival (see links)
Having been invited to submit a further entry to the willow tree tarot carnival, I thought it would be interesting to ask the Rainring cards what they have to say about blogging.
Below is a reading of the Rainring cards using the play section of the interactive web site at www.rainringcards.com. If you find it interesting, do visit the site and find out more!
I’ve used the five-card square, whose positions are identified thus:
The reading obtained can be viewed by clicking on the accompanying link.
The interpretation:
centre: radiance – ‘the balance of one’s self-vibration in interaction with others – radiance cannot be bent to the will of another, neither seeks power and control for self over others’
So congratulations, all you bloggers out there! A highly positive card which indicates that bloggers in general shine, assert themselves, but without seeking to squash anyone else in the process, nor being inclined to submit to the will of others.
+1: Clarity – ‘quality of spirit which apprehends without partiality or bias; seeing situations, relationships, others and oneself without the distortion of deflation or inflation’ No surprises here, I would say. Clarity belongs to the purple (spirit) group. The Writing is an activity of Spirit (definition: Spirit: the male pole - spiritual vision or insight; discrimination, wisdom.) Writing a blog is an activity that promotes the male-side virtues of reflection, discrimination, perception and so on.
Clarity is also about an honest view of oneself, without the excesses of either inflation or deflation.
+2: Form – ‘the fourth principle: manifestation, differentiation, proliferation – the realm of the senses’. This is a big card, the archetype for the world of manifestation. It generally carries the sense of everything being in its right place. Form represents order as opposed to chaos, tidy rather than messy and so on. In this case, I have the impression that the card refers to the necessity for the blogger to confine his or her ravings always within the framework imposed by the hosting outfit. Further, to reach the maximum audience, the blogger is obliged to think very seriously about practicalities. Ignored genius may content some, but the majority are keen to get and keep an audience.
-1: The Maid – moving to the disadvantages, the minor one is represented by the maid. ‘the young woman who incarnates the marriage of Will and Spirit; she has spiritual insight and sexual vitality in equal measure’.
Rainring is, amongst other things, an attempt to break down the traditional opposition between spirit at one pole and sex at the other. Their positions in the spectrum – purple/violet and red – suggest that they are not far apart. Between them lies Magenta, deep pink, the colour of the group in the Rainring cards to which The Maid belongs.
Here, I feel that this card is highlighting the difficulties – both for themselves and others - involved in the presence in the blogosphere of young girls brimming with intelligence and hormonal urges, but scantily endowed with restraint or inhibitions.
-2: Domination: ‘expanding one’s own space by overriding the will of others; compulsive drive for power’ λ (reversed).
The life of an interpreter of cards is filled with slaps in the face! This is one of them – those moments when, as reader, I’m inclined to exclaim: ‘What on Earth is the unconscious on about now?’
I think – and think is the operative word! – that this refers to the fact that one cannot control the comments one receives when blogging, and one is therefore exposing oneself to being criticised, even trashed, for what one writes – there is no guarantee of always getting a fair or a gentle hearing.
(later addition). There is another sense in which the disadvantage of domination reversed is experienced by the blogger: that of having no control over comments or their absence. A piece of lightweight, trivial material may attract interest, whilst something with real depth and weight may go unresponded to.
