art objects 5: Mexican(?) wall hanging - contemporary

I bought this in a large bric-a-brac emporium in Brighton and was not able to speak to the seller and find out anything about it. I’m pretty sure that there are Americans who will read this and know much more than me.

I say that because my gut feeling is that it must be Mexican. The background is a white felted wool and the designs are done with that common form of work whose name I can’t remember - help me somebody, I’m showing my ignorance here!

I take it that the designs are mythological - any help available please? The size is approx 50 x 90 cms. All I can say is that I love the designs, which seem really exuberant, bold, vibrant and full of character. The Rainring card to describe the vibe of this piece is: Impression - not really surprising, I guess! I imagine such things must be very common in the US of A, but on this side of the pond, we don’t get to see much from Latin America. Enjoy, and please - inform me!!
