Poem: All I know

In a recent visit to Kalliope Amorphous at   http://musecatcher.com/2007/12/13/spill/#comments

I came across the line ‘and all I know how to do is fall into words’, which had an immediate resonance for me. I wrote the following poem, and have decided to post it in a totally raw state. I feel as if it needs something doing to it, but I’m not sure what. So this is a sudden visit of the muse, so far untampered with…

All I know how to do

is fall into words

headlong

like the sea crashing on the headland;

all I know how to do

is crash into worlds

and I would rather be the wind

and ruffle the feather of the world

and blow through syllables

into the future of time

Indeed, the world is a feather. :)

Yes, the muse bit you. Passionately.

This is really why we write isn’t it because nothing else can express that moment quite so well…. and falling into words - the momentary escape- heals in some unfathomable way does it not? Love this one 94

Thanks, guys, for your warm words about this one.
Hi Sashi, nice to see you! This phrase ‘All I know how to do / is fall into words’ just strikes me as an example of Kalliope’s gift - she comes up all the time with turns of phrase that I could never produce: maybe it’s a fact that we all have our distinctive way of versifying, you included, and should make sure to find what we do well and then stick to it, not run around drooling over how amazing other people’s stuff is and how great it would be to be able to ‘write like that’ - which I feel is an attitude which it’s almost impossible to avoid sometimes.
