Rainring Masterclass 1-5This series of ‘lessons’ is intended to provide some kind of background, back-up and support to people attempting to get to grips with Rainring for the first time. It deals with the version of the cards found on the web, not those available in hard copy, which are more complex. However, a great deal of what can be found here will also be of immediate relevance to those using the 4-mention hard copy.

Class 1: Introduction to the grid - using group and set position to understand the meaning of an individual card

Class 2: The groups and aspects: the anatomy of Rainring’s fundamental spread.

Class 3: the sets

Class 4: an example reading featuring the centred octagon (Pts 1-3)

Tales from Rainring This is the story written originally in 1996 and  used to illustrate the Rainring cards. It is presented in serial form, with a new episode added on or close to the 20th of each month.

So far: episodes 1-9

 Using Rainring

This page presents a brief overview of what one can expect as a new user of Rainring, and also explores a spread obtained by asking the cards: What will be the effect of Rainring upon a moderate (i.e. not obsessive) user?

Rainring and Psychotherapy (1)

Rainring and Psychotherapy (2)

Rainring and Psychotherapy (3)

This series of articles asks the question: in what ways is a Rainring reading similar to and different from a psychotherapy session?

Rainring analyses tarot

“How would you describe the tarot?” is the question put to the Rainring cards. After a link to a print-screen of the spread as read on the website, there is an analysis, card by card of the nine-card spread used. This is both a meditation on the tarot and a demonstration of the Rainring cards in action.

Tarot-I Ching-Rainring Pt3

The concluding part of this trilogy attempts to answer the questions: Why not just read tea-leaves? and What difference does it make whether I use Rainring, tarot, I Ching or any of the available systems?

 Tarot-I Ching-Rainring Pt 2

This part comments in depth the two readings previewed in Part 1.

Tarot-I Ching-Rainring Pt 1

Is there any reason to explore Rainring, a contemporary system, given that we have the tried and tested tarot and I Ching?

How does the Unconscious view systems such as Rainring, tarot and I Ching? We introduce print-screens of two four-card spreads, one representing the view from consciousness, the other the view from the Unconscious.

The Unconscious blogs about blogging

Recommended as an introduction for bloggers to the Rainring cards in action - a far less deep and heavy subject than some of the others, using the 5-card square. The cards are surprisingly(?) complimentary about the blogging fraternity.

Rainring describes Rainring

In this disarmingly simple 4-card spread, we ask the Rainring cards how they would describe themselves. The result is a startling and disturbing reading, which provides much food for thought.

Rainring cards illustrators

For those interested in the intricacies of the visual, the names of the four illustrators of the Rainring cards, together with one example of the work of each of them.

The Unconscious’s advice on how to read Rainring

This short post gives a very brief analysis of a 9-card octagon spread to answer the question: how should a person go about reading Rainring cards - in other words, what attitudes, approaches etc are needed.

wanted: innovators!

This is a very short post containing a link to an article on innovation /diffusion theory, and how footwear manufacturers use it to develop new products. It is about the psychology of adoption (and non-adoption) of the new.

(I have removed two early posts I did on synchronicity and the random factor, as I am not satisfied with them. I may return to these issues at a later date.)
